Genesis

Genesis: An Overview

Genesis is not about great people finding God - it's about a great God who keeps His promise.

In the Beginning: God's Eternal Power and Order (Genesis 1:1-5)

God's sovereign word brings light, order, and life out of darkness. This calls us to respond by trusting Christ, the true Light, and surrendering to God's rightful rule.

God Forms and Fills a Perfect World (Genesis 1:3-25)

The sovereign God creates an ordered, good world by His powerful word.

The Crown of Creation and Hope of Restoration (Genesis 1:26-31)

The sovereign God forms humanity in His image to rule under Him.

The Rest of the Creator (Genesis 2:1-3)

God completed His perfect work of creation and set apart the seventh day as a holy rest that ultimately points to the rest found in Jesus.

Life As God Designed It (Genesis 2:4-25)

God designed life - our identity, work, and relationships - to be good, but sin has distorted that design. Through Jesus Christ, we are restored to right relationship with God and the life He intended.

The Temptation and Fall: Sin Enters (Genesis 3:1-13)

Sin enters our lives when we believe that God is not good and His Word cannot be trusted - but in Christ, we are shown that God is truly good and has given us everything we need for life and salvation.

From Curse to Christ: The Promise that Leads to Easter (Genesis 3:14-24)

Though sin brought curse, death, and exile, God promised a coming Savior who would defeat the serpent - and that promise is fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Christ.

Cain and Abel: Sin's Spread and God's Mercy (Genesis 4:1-16)

Sin spreads from the heart into destructive actions, but God graciously confronts, judges, and offers mercy that ultimately points to Christ.

Two Lines, Two Legacies (Genesis 4:17-26)

Humanity splits into two lines: one that builds life without God, and one that calls on the name of the Lord.
